Parents Saluted During Graduation

Giving thanks to parents for all their hard work and sacrifices made for their children were the words reiterated by DUT’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ahmed Bawa at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, DUT Steve Biko Campus, on Tuesday, 21 April 2015.

Prof Bawa was speaking during the University’s Graduation Ceremonies. “I must turn my attention to parents and guardians. We must give thanks to them for their enormous sacrifices for their children. For that, we salute you,” said Prof Bawa.

Many parents shared the same sentiments and expressed their relief and joy of their children’s’ hard work and sacrifice bearing fruit.

For Sibongile Vata, the graduation of her daughter Mbalenhle Vata was the proudest moment of her life as mother. “She is my only child. As a single mother, I have done everything possible to make her future better than mine, even moving from the Eastern Cape to Durban, just to ensure she gets a good education like she did at DUT. This is a very proud moment for me and I am beyond excited that she has obtained her Bachelor of Technology degree in Cost and Management Accounting,” she said.

Another proud parent who could not contain her joy of seeing her daughter graduate was Rosemary Moodley, mother of Meriska Moodley who had obtained a National Diploma in Coast and Management Accounting. “Both her father and I are extremely proud of her achievement and as the eldest child; she has set a great example to her younger brother who is currently in matric. I must add that it has been a long and tough road but God has a way of making a way for everything,” she said excitedly.

Husband of Mishelle Doorasamy, Ivan Doorasamy, said he was very proud of his wife in achieving her dream of graduating with a Degree of Master of Technology in Cost and Management Accounting. “It has been lots of sacrifice on our family, but it was all worth it in the end. My son, Kyle (12) also ensured his mother got all the time she needed to study. We are all so excited to see her graduate and are taking her out to a special dinner in celebration of her enormous success,” he said proudly.
