PERUMAL RECEIVES ANOTHER FEATHER ON HER ACADEMIC CAP

After serving as DUT chairperson for the South African Institute for Industrial Engineering, Meloshnee Perumal adds another feather on her cap after graduating Cum Laude for her degree.

Perumal, 25, from Pinetown, says the completion of her Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree comes after many restless nights. Her journey exposed her to opportunities and developed her as a woman in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field. Being the DUT SAIIE committee chairperson is one of the opportunities she is grateful to have had.

“My academic experience at DUT was exceptionally rewarding due to the unwavering support and guidance provided by a few of my committed and enthusiastic professors. Their dedication made the course memorable and will always have a special place in my heart,” says Perumal.

She is proud to be a DUT graduate; however, knowing she has bagged the degree with a Cum Laude accolade making her even prouder.

“Having accomplished this, I am filled with immense gratitude. It was my aim throughout my three years of study in Industrial Engineering.

“All the effort and restless nights have now been rewarded and with this qualification, I am hoping to receive opportunities of work to jump start my career in Industrial Engineering,” says Perumal.

Perumal says she was sceptical about taking the Industrial Engineering career path when she left high school. She then later changed her mind after receiving compelling orientation on the career choice.

“The assistance of a late professor in Engineering led me to this decision. I was first sceptical of Industrial Engineering, but once he demonstrated its benefits, I changed my mind. The numerous opportunities and abilities I would have acquired are what ultimately led me to decide that this is the right degree for me,” she shares.

Advising first year students, Perumal says that if they maintain a balanced life, they will do well.

“Students must make effort and diligently study. When it comes to stressful projects, by consistently allocating a small amount of time each day, a difficult task becomes easier to accomplish,” she says.
