PMB Campus Hosts Successful Benchmarking Event With MUT

DUT’s Pietermaritzburg Centre, Midlands, KwaZulu-Natal, recently hosted staff from the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), Umlazi, south of Durban, at the Student Counselling and Development Centre Training (SCDC) Room, Riverside Campus, for a benchmarking exercise as a means of MUT learning more about DUT services on offer, discuss academic ideas and shared good practices with regards to student services.

She said it was important for staff at both institutions to support the universities’ academic endeavours by providing effective student services that enhanced the quality of student life.

“We also discussed and went through various programmes, discussing the policies and procedures that govern our Student Counselling Centre. We spoke about our internship programme and the interns shared their experiences. We also tackled the issue of record keeping, the relationship that we have with the academics and how we filter our programmes through their academic programmes,” she said.

Haffajee also gave presentations on about campaigns on Teenage Pregnancy which was held in February 2014, the Phuza-Wise Campaign and the Gender Based Violence Campaign.
“We also went through the Community Outreach Programme that we do where we go out to the feeder schools to do presentations on the various courses that DUT offers, the sugar daddy syndromes as well as the benefits of male circumcision for both males and females. We also spoke on the marketing materials that we use to market our services. All in all, this turned out to be a very productive exercise for both DUT and MUT and positive feedback was received from the MUT staff,” she said.
