The Research Capacity Development (RCD) Office supported the Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate to successfully conclude the Postgraduate Forum Elections on Friday, 17 October 2025, marking the official establishment of the Forum. The primary purpose of the Forum is to elect student representatives who will advocate for the interests of the postgraduate research community. This body plays a critical role in shaping the postgraduate experience, promoting research excellence, and ensuring inclusive representation across all faculties.
The programme was structured into two sessions. The first session featured team-building activities facilitated by Mr Zenande Ndakisa, designed to help postgraduate students connect and build relationships. The second session focused on the nomination and voting process for the Postgraduate Forum. Dr Nomcebo Mthombeni, Interim Director of the Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate, officially opened the session and welcomed all participants. In her address, she emphasised the significance of establishing the Postgraduate Forum as a vital platform for students to voice their concerns and share experiences throughout their academic journey.
The DUT Postgraduate Forum serves as a consultative and advocacy body that represents postgraduate students in institutional decision-making. It also facilitates dialogue between students and research administration and promotes access to research resources, funding, and professional development. Lastly, the forum supports initiatives aligned with DUT’s strategic priorities including research capacity building and research skills training.
The 2025 elections were conducted through an in-person voting system. The process was overseen by the Research Capacity Development (RCD) Office in collaboration with the Mrs Kholeka Mfeka from the Student Governance and Development Office ensuring that all protocols and procedures were duly followed. A diverse group of candidates from various faculties were elected to the Forum. Notable elected representatives include:

The newly elected Forum will serve a one-year term, with quarterly meetings scheduled to engage with the Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate and other stakeholders. The 2025 Postgraduate Forum Elections mark a significant step toward strengthening postgraduate representation and research advocacy at DUT. The Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate will work closely with the elected Forum to implement key initiatives and ensure alignment with institutional goals.
