DUT: Community Engagement Project Fundraising Event

DUT: Community Engagement Project Fundraising Event

Media statement by Ms Nomonde Mbadi, Executive Director: Corporate Affairs

Students from the Interior design programme at the Durban University of Technology will be holding a fund raising golf day in aid of Wylie house, which is their Community Engagement project for 2008. This event is being held on 3 August 2008.

The aim of the event is to assist Wylie House with renovation of their accommodation and living areas.

Each year since 2003, lecturers from the Interior Design programme have selected an underprivileged or charitable organisation seeking to transform and refurbish their premises. Once the projects parameters have been determined by both parties, students are commissioned to design and physically implement the community engagement project, as part of the courses experiential learning component. Past and future success of such projects, depends solely on funding and sponsorship made available by industry.

The subject of this year’s project is Wylie House Child and Youth Care Centre situated at 202 Ridge Road, Berea. It is a registered Child care facility offering services to at risk young female children between the ages of three and a half to eighteen years. The Interior design programme will be revamping 3 lounges, kitchens, dining rooms in this one week period, however in order to achieve this goal, urgent assistance and generous sponsorship from industry are prerequisite to its successful accomplishment.

The public is invited to enter a team in this tournament. The entrance fee will be R380.00 per person.

The Interior design programme is seeking sponsorship for each of the 18 holes, for the registration area, the halfway house and the clubhouse. Any assistance with supplying prizes would also be much appreciated.

We are offering the following sponsorship options:

· One green for R1000.00

· One Tee for R500.00

· Club House Area

· Prizes

· Promotional hand outs
