The Convocation of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will bestow a Special Silver Tusk Award upon one of its first students and struggle stalwart Kandasamy Govinthu, who turned 100 years this year. Mr Govinthu will personally receive the award on Saturday evening.

The special award will be presented at an Annual General Meeting of DUT Convocation to be held on 22 November 2008. This is a double celebration as DUT turned 100 in 2007. Govinthu studied at the ML Sultan Technical College.

The occasion will take place at DUT’s Hotel School, on Ritson Campus, Durban University of Technology, starting at 18h00 on Saturday, 22 November. Hundreds of former students are expected to grace the occasion with their presence to witness this event.
