Family pair graduates together

Hard work has paid off for a husband and wife who will be reaping the fruits of their success together when they graduate cum laude with Bachelor of Technology degrees in Business Management at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) on 17 April. The pair met at DUT when they were doing their National Diploma in Electronic Engineering and later got married.

The Rampershad family pair, Ritesh and Virasha Rampershad, are full time employees and have supported and helped each other to achieve success. Virasha is an Electrification Planning Co-ordinator at ESKOM in New Germany. Ritesh is a Key Account Manager at Arrow Altech Distribution. They have a four-year old daughter, Simran Rampershad. They live in Phoenix.

They were happy with their daughter’s acceptance when they started studying. She was one year old at the time. She is now four. They believe her understanding encouraged them to do their best and not disappoint her.

“I feel great and ecstatic. I still can’t believe we did it. It’s all possible through dedication, hard work and sacrifice.
We work well as a team and have completely different strengths which complement each other. We supported and helped each other through difficult times. We motivate each other,” says Virasha.

“It feels great knowing that the hard work has paid off. This accomplishment makes me extremely proud especially as a family pair. Our secret is hard work, dedication, commitment and motivating each other. Having a positive mindset ensures one’s success. There is always a time and place for everything in one’s life,” comments Ritesh.

Virasha advises that there is no end to acquiring knowledge. She urges coupes to keep studying. “Do it today and stop making excuses.” She understands that there are always challenges in life. But she insists that there is no better time than right now to start studying.

“Knowledge is a gift that never can be taken away from you. The knowledge obtained is not only used in one’s work environment but also in your day to day activities,” advises Ritesh.

Virasha, who has enjoyed studying at DUT, says the practical experience she gained whilst studying towards her Diploma prepared her for some of the challenges she faced in the work place. She says this encouraged both of them to return to DUT and attempt a BTech degree. She now has a very good understanding of the overall business and she is able to add valuable input into the business. She loves spending time with her family and going out to the movies and holidays.

Ritesh says the knowledge obtained through his studies, assists him greatly when dealing with Sales Budgets, Sales Targets and Strategic Planning. He adds that it has also assisted him in understanding how the financial sector of any business operates.

Passionate about life long learning they both intend doing Masters Degree. Virasha wants to do an MTech next year. He wants to pursue a lecturing position at a university, after or while completing his MBA.
