The DUT Green Campus Initiative hosted a dialogue to promote and encourage environmental sustainability in communities and amongst students.

In creating platforms of engagement that enhance innovation and entrepreneurship through collaboration and partnership, the Initiative invited a variety of guests to contribute and share their knowledge as to how they are practising a green lifestyle in their daily lives.

“Our mission is to ensure that teaching and learning about the environment takes priority and is valued. South Africa has so many opportunities of growth. It is up to the youth to take charge in a positive way and maximise those opportunities that can prosper underdeveloped communities,” said Doc Nhassengo, DUT Student Housing Director.

The main aim of this initiative that was started by young students turned social entrepreneurs is to educate communities and promote different themes about sustainability, rendering green community service and environmental education.

“Tomorrow is not guaranteed to everyone but to those who have done something today. Let us stop blaming everything on the government. We need to be the leaders that go back our communities to empower and transform their living conditions for the better,” said SRC Education and Transformation Officer, Siphephelo Mthembu.
