PROVIDING ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO THE DUT COMMUNITY IN THE TIMES OF A PANDEMIC

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) continues to commend all its essential service workers for their dedication and commitment in providing services to the DUT community during the COVID-19 pandemic. DUT’s Communications team’s Simangele Zuma spoke to Sindisiwe Ndlovu, Administrator for the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP) within the DUT Midlands Project Management Office.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I joined DUT in 2019 as a Marketing intern at the Midlands Entrepreneurship Centre. In 2021, I was then appointed as their Marketing and Events Coordinator Assistant. Currently, I am the Administrator for the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP) within the DUT Midlands Project Management Office. My role entails doing administration work, events coordination and writing articles.”

Q: How long have you been in that role?

A: “I am relatively new to this position, I only started in May this year (2021).”

Q: Please describe yourself in a few words?

A: “I am a versatile and passionate individual who always portrays creativity in her work and strives for excellence. I am also humble and empathetic.”

Q: How has it been like working during COVID-19?

A: “At first, it was extremely challenging to adapt to the new normal of doing things, having to unlearn and dealing with the anxiety. As challenging as it was, it brought a great opportunity for me to learn new things and be more creative when it comes to the way I do my work.”

Q: How do you deal with the fear of contracting COVID-19 and losing loved ones due to this virus?

A: “I always adhere to COVID-19 regulations and pay less attention to conspiracy theories. To protect my loved ones, I constantly remind them to take care of themselves, eat healthily and also adhere to COVID-19 regulations.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?

A: “It is my potential. It is in knowing that every day is an opportunity for me to become the best version of myself and achieve my dreams.”

Q: Please take me through a normal day in your life?

A: “I begin my day with prayer, then read or watch an informative or inspirational video for at least 20 minutes and prepare for work.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I love to write, have discussions with people who have different perspectives about several things, spend time with my family, read and listen to music.”

Q: If you had one wish what would it be?

A: “My wish would be for young people to believe in themselves, their dreams and be confident about their knowledge and who they are. I struggled with my self-esteem for many years, and it deprived me of so many opportunities. I therefore do not wish for any young person to go through the same process.”
