PROVIDING ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO THE DUT COMMUNITY IN THE TIMES OF A PANDEMIC

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) continues to commend its essential workers for their dedication and commitment in providing services to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. DUT’s Communications team’s Nomvelo Zulu spoke to Kareeshma Gayaparsad, Marketing Practitioner under the division of Corporate Affairs at DUT.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am the Marketing Practitioner who is positioned in the Division of Corporate Affairs: Marketing, Public Relations, and Events Unit.”

Q: How long have you been in that role?

A: “I have been appointed in this role since October 2020.”

Q: Please describe yourself in a few words?

A: “I am transparent, honest, committed, consistent, and reliable.”

Q: How has it been like working during COVID-19?

A: “The COVID-19 pandemic most definitely accelerated the pace at which I work. I am grateful for the support from my team members.”

Q: How do you deal with the fear of contracting COVID-19 and losing loved ones due to this virus?

A: “I avoid visiting public spaces unless necessary, I take every precaution necessary to ensure that I adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines. I have been consistent in keeping a positive mindset and avoiding engaging in discussions on COVID-19 conspiracy theories.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?

A: “Appreciating the privilege of being alive, while many others have been deprived of this opportunity, especially because of the pandemic. Using opportunities that I have been given to make the most of each day.”

Q: Please take me through a normal day in your life?

A: “On most days I start my day with gratitude meditation and journaling. I also indulge in a session of morning yoga and prayer before commencing my workday. I then jot my tasks, meetings and priorities for the day and work my way through them. I end my day with dinner and watching a good series or a movie.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I love binge-watching movies and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.”

Q: If you had one wish what would it be?

A: “My one wish would be that the principles of Buddhism are instilled in kids globally from a young age, as this would help to create a peaceful and balanced world.”
