Ramharakh Changes Career and Obtains Deans Merit Award in HR

Career guidance received by Priyanka Ramharakh while she was enrolled for a Dental Technology programme at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2015, saw her changing careers to enrol for a National Diploma in Human Resources Management in 2016.

Fast forward to 2019, this evening (Friday, 10 May 2019) Ramharakh will graduate Cum laude with a Deans Merit award for her National Diploma in Human Resources Management at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.

She changed to Human Resources Management because she realised that’s where her passion lied. “I commenced with my National Diploma in Human Resources Management in 2016. I grew fond of my modules and was pleased with my results from first year and was granted a remission for my good marks which took a great amount of financial strain off my parents. I, thereafter decided that this is it, this is going to be my goal and I have to try to alleviate this financial strain from my parents and try my best,” she said.

Reacting to her remarkable achievement, Ramharakh could not contain her excitement. “I feel proud to be graduating and even more ecstatic to be graduating Cum Laude with a Deans Merit. My family has stood by me throughout my journey and I am truly grateful for their support. I would really like to thank my brother for putting up with my moods whilst studying and testing me before every exam,” she said proudly.

Ramharakh expressed appreciation to her lecturers and fellow students for their support throughout her academic journey. “My lecturers have always been open to communication and I am thankful for all their assistance throughout my journey. My classmates have also had the most impact in my life because without their motivation and belief in me I would not have been able to have carried out my leadership responsibilities so well,’ she added.

She urged current students to utilise all support resources that are at their disposal in order to succeed academically, and never to give up. “Never stop trying, days, modules and certain tasks can become very stressful but at the end of a rainy day there will always be sunshine,” she said.

The current Human Resources Intern at RCL Foods added that her immediate goals are to acquire permanent employment and further her studies in Human Resources Management.
