Residential Students Honoured Leadership and Hard work

The Department of Student Housing and Resident Life at DUT held an award ceremony at the University’s Walsingham Student Residence on Friday (02 October 2015) last week where students who had done well in diverse areas of student life were rewarded and recognised for their hard work and dedication.

Students who had done well academically, in sport, had shown good leadership skills, led as examples at their residences and performed their duties as house committee members were honored at the ceremony.

“The criteria for the awards was to select those student who have an aggregate of 85% and above academically, students who did well in sports, who are great leaders no matter what the task and who have been able to lead by example at their residences,” said Musawenkosi Mthalane, Outsource Resident Co-ordinator/ Resident Life Officer.

Nkululeko Mbatha, an award recipient (for his participation in leadership programmes), said he was honored to be appreciated for the work he does. “I am happy that my work does not go unnoticed. It motivates me to be more productive and giving,” he said. Mbatha is part of the DUT Green Campus Initiative’s Executive Committee and co-ordinated two beauty pageants that took place at the University, one of which was Miss DUT.
