Retirees Honoured at DUT Function

Retirees Honoured at DUT Function

The Durban University of Technology hosted the 2014 Retirees Recognition function at Ritson Campus, on 18 August 2015.

The retirees were honoured by the University in a special function where their contributions and achievements (at the University) were recognised. The retirees were overwhelmed by the recognition and appreciation they had received from DUT for the work they have done over the years.

DUT”s Vice Chancellor and Principal, Prof Ahmed Bawa, who spoke at the event, said a huge thank you to all retirees for their hard work and dedication they had given to the University.

“The long time you were in the University is greatly appreciated as you all have made such a great impact at the University. I want to say thank you to each person for spending so much of your time at the University, and I do hope that it was a fulfilling and rewarding experience for you. We have to take stock and also salute ourselves for the role we have played at DUT,” he said.

Dr Matata Mokoele, DUTs Senior Director of Human Resources, said that he considered former staff members as valuable assets and he believes that the University still needs their expertise even after their retirement and that their recognition is indicative of their value to the University.

One of the retirees, a former DUT Journalism lecturer, Dr Mikhail Peppas, said, “ I have been with DUT close to 20 years and before I came to City Campus, I already knew the place and

I loved the building because I used to love visiting the different departments such as Graphic Design and Fine Art. I will continue working closely with DUT because I have now been appointed as a researcher, so I will continue supervising students for Master’s and their doctorates.”
