SELF-BELIEF LEADS AMAHLE NDIMANDE TO DEAN’S MERIT AWARD IN SOMATOLOGY

Sometimes self-belief is all that it takes to change one’s life. Amahle Ndimande has done exactly that by proving that self-belief can take one further than talent ever will.

Amahle (21) graduated Cum Laude and received the Dean’s Merit award for academic excellence for her Diploma in Somatology at Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2026 Autumn Graduation Ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre (OCC) on Friday, 22 May 2026.

“Honestly, it still does not feel real. This award is more than a mark on a certificate. It is a proof that you can rise through pressure, uncertainty, and setbacks if you stay disciplined and keep your eyes on the goal. It is for every student who’s ever felt like giving up but chose to push one more day,” she said.

Hailing from Clermont, Durban, she is currently pursuing her Advanced Diploma in Somatology, a journey she describes as both challenging and deeply rewarding.

Her academic path has been filled with early mornings, sleepless nights, and moments of doubt. Yet through every challenge, she remained grounded.

She credited much of her strength to the unwavering support she had received from her department and lecturers, who went beyond simply teaching. They adapted with students, stood by them during difficult times, and ensured that no one felt alone. That level of commitment, she believes, is what makes DUT graduates truly work-ready.

“This achievement is more than just a qualification. It represents growth through pressure, uncertainty, and setbacks. The demanding nature of the programme taught me adaptability, self-discipline, and the importance of community,” she said.

Amahle shared of how she embodies the DUT living values and principles of resilience, excellence, and professionalism. Beyond the classroom, she currently works as a student mentor, guiding first-year students as they adjust to the demands of the programme. She also takes on part-time practical roles to build her confidence and industry experience.

Looking ahead, she plans to pursue her postgraduate studies and build a meaningful career in the wellness, medical, and aesthetics industry, one that inspires others while creating opportunities within her community.
