SHRAVAN DASS AIMS TO BUILD A CAREER IN DATA ANALYST

From Phoenix, a town northwest of Durban Central, comes the inspiring story of Shravan Dass, a 21-year-old who transformed his academic future through discipline and determination. His journey at Durban University of Technology (DUT) began in 2023 when he enrolled in the Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology program.

Transitioning  from high school to university required discipline, consistency, and a complete shift in mindset, qualities that laid the foundation for his success at DUT. Over the past three years, Shravan maintained this focus and determination, ultimately graduating with Cum Laude during the faculty of Accounting & Informatics graduation session, held at Olive Convention Centre on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

One of his biggest challenges was managing himself internally, staying motivated, consistent, and disciplined over time. Learning to focus, manage his time effectively, and push through difficult periods was key to overcoming these hurdles.

“One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning to manage myself. While students often face external pressures, I found that the real challenge was internal with regards to staying consistent, motivated, and disciplined over time,” said Shravan.

His family has been a constant source of support and pride, encouraging him through every high and low, playing an important role in helping him stay focused on his goals.

His passion for technology began in high school, making his study of Information Technology a natural path.

“This was always my intended field of study. I have had a strong interest in technology since high school, and pursuing IT felt like a natural path for me,” he explained.

He is now advancing his knowledge by pursuing a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Honours degree at DUT. Looking forward, Shravan aims to build a career as a Data Analyst, eager to work with data to uncover insights that support decision-making in organisations.

For those following similar paths, Shravan shared that understanding how you work best as an individual makes it easier to stay consistent and perform at your best.
