Financial Issues never stood in Nontethelelo Sibiya’s way to graduate Cum Laude in Office Management and Technology.
Sibiya was conferred with a National Diploma in Office Management and Technology with Cum Laude today, 30 April 2019 at FJ Sithole Hall, Indumiso Campus in Pietermaritzburg.
She is a young, resilient woman who is determined to succeed against all odds. Being a DUT student was a life changing experience for her, she met alot of people who motivated and inspired her to thrive academically.
“Initially I wanted to do Accounting but I did not qualify but I was offered a place in Office Management and Technology instead, and now when I look back I realised that I don’t like Accounting and I would not have done so well as I did in Office Management Technology,” said Nontethelelo.
Her first year in University was not smooth sailing because she was struggling to adapt to the University environment and the workload was too much for her as she was coming straight from High School. She tried to manage her time wisely and stay disciplined and that helped her to be where she is today.
Her mother and sister have been so supportive financially as her NSFAS application was unsuccessful. They had to pay for all her University expenses.
Her source of inspiration has also been her former lecturer Dr Cynthia Dongwe, who imparted her knowledge into her students. “It’s very easy to talk to her regarding personal matters, and she brings solutions to any obstacles,” she said.
Although she graduated with Cum Laude, Sibiya added that she does not have a recipe for passing with distinctions, but believes that for one to pass exceptionally well one needs to find a study method that works and stick to it.
