So Many Places to Be, So Little Time

With DUT’s academic year ending on Friday, 11 December 2015, students from the University are expected to spend the summer break recharging their batteries for the forthcoming yeWith KwaZulu-Natal being known for its world class tourism facilities, we’ve put together a guide of some of the best spots to visit in Durban and Pietermaritzburg during this festive season.

Durban
1. 1. Visit the Moses Mabhida Stadium for a tour of the stadium, get an aerial view of the city in the Sky Car, relax on the lawns or visit the People’s Park.
2. Take a swim on the warm beaches or Ushaka Marine World’s Wet ‘n Wild.
3. Eat out on Florida Road, UShaka Marine World, Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World, Wilson’s Wharf, Glenwood’s Helen Joseph Road, etc.
4. Shop till you drop in at Umhlanga’s Gateway Theatre of Shopping, The Pavilion, Arbor Crossing, La Lucia Mall, Musgrave Centre, etc.
5. Visit fleamarkets including Stables Lifestyle Market, Essenwood Morning Market, the I Heart Market at the Moses Mabhida Stadium or Shongweni
Farmers and Crafts Market.
6. Head to Umlazi’s Eyadini or Max’s Lifestyle to enjoy some township cuisine, hang out or enjoy some good music.
7. Visit the City’s various museums including Maritime Museum, Natural Science Museum, Old Court House Museum or KwaMuhle Museum.
8. Visit the Durban Botanic Gardens or Mitchell Park for a relaxing time on the green lawns.
9. Get active on the beachfront promenade by skating, jogging, cycling, or swimming at the Rachel Finlayson pools.
10. Have a braai on Durban’s Blue Lagoon.
11. Pack your swimming gear and head to the Wave House, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, and flow ride (simulated waves known as flow riders combine surfing, snowboarding, and wakeboarding in one) or simply hang out.
Pietermaritzburg
1. Head to the Natal Zoological Gardens to see a variety of wildlife.
2. Release your inner-gamer and visit Action Combat Paintball or Epic Karting.
3. Experience South Africa’s magnificent aerial predators firsthand at the African Bird of Prey Sanctuary, a safe-haven to the widest selection of indigenous
raptors in Southern Africa.
4. 4. Experience South African heritage at the KwaZulu-Natal Museum.
5. 5. Head to the Liberty Midlands Mall for a variety of outlets.
