SPORT ADMINISTRATION UNIT LAUNCHES A DUT RACE WALK CLUB FOR STAFF MEMBERS

The Sport Administration Unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) launched a Race Walk Club on Monday, 13 March 2023 at the Lagoon Beach. The race walk is aimed at encouraging the healthy living lifestyle of the university staff members through exercising.

Staff members from different departments and units gladly participated, including Dr Vuyo Mthethwa: Deputy Vice-Chancellor: People and Operations who expressed her gratitude to the organisers of this newly launched race walk.

“I am ecstatic about this programme. The goal is to keep fit, be energetic and be healthy. It is refreshing to do it here by the beach, I would like to encourage all DUT staff to join as this will help them distress and be more productive towards their work. This race walk will also give DUT staff members a chance to network, socialise and share tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle at no cost,” said Dr Mthethwa.

Sharing the same sentiments was Ms Sushi Moodley, from the Vice Chancellor’s office who also encouraged all DUT staff to join the race walk happening on Mondays and Thursdays from 16:45 to 18:00. She further encouraged all DUT staff to be walkers. She also emphasized that you do not have to be a professional health bunny to join.

“You don’t have to be a professional walker or be in good physical condition to join the race walk, it is about having fun while exercising,” said Sushi.

Mr Bongani Yengwa, Manager: Sports Administration, who also checked in to the launch shared his experience on the race work.

“It was a good exercise, we got a chance to meet new people and socialize. As the Sport Administration Unit we would like to urge more staff members to join the race walk,” he said.
