The Student Representative Council (SRC) Academic Officer at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Silindile Ximba, best known as Thingolwenkosazane is committed in fostering a collaborative and student-centric environment.
She aspires to implement initiatives that promote academic excellence, inclusivity, and holistic development. Ximba is currently enrolled for her third-year in Business Information Management (BIM).
Her duties include working closely with students, the faculties and administration staff to bridge the academic gaps and to create a more vibrant university community.
“As the SRC Academic Officer, my role is multifaceted. I advocate for students’ academic needs, ensuring they have the resources and support required for a successful learning journey. From collaborating with faculties to organising academic workshops and addressing coursework concerns, I am dedicated to enhancing the overall academic experience for my peers,” she said.
Ximba further shared on her journey as part of the DUT family and in student politics, saying it is exciting and transformative.
“My journey into student politics was sparked by a desire to actively contribute to the student community. Recognising the potential impact student leaders can have on shaping the educational experience, I decided to step into the realm of student governance. It was a natural progression fuelled by my passion for creating positive change within the university environment,” she added.
The SRC Academic Officer indicated that her ambitions for the SRC is to encourage open dialogues and collaboration to make students feel heard, supported and motivated. She then said what sets this SRC apart is its commitment to innovation and inclusivity.
“We are focused on implementing student-driven solutions and creating an environment where diverse voices are not only heard but actively incorporated into decision-making processes,” she added.
Ximba concluded by sharing that she is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and that she is always eager to connect with fellow students, faculty members, and anyone who is passionate about shaping the future of education at DUT.
