SRC DEPUTY PRESIDENT, QHAWE MTENGU IS READY TO SERVE THE STUDENTS

Meet Qhawe Mtengu, a dynamic force of ambition, innovation and student empowerment, now serving as the Student Representative Council (SRC) Deputy President for 2025/27 at Durban University of Technology (DUT).

His story is one of strength, discipline, and a steadfast belief that leadership is not about titles but about transforming lives.

Qhawe comes from Mandeni in the small industrial area of Isithebe in KwaZulu-Natal, a humble and hardworking community known for its factories and the enduring spirit of its people. It was here that his character was shaped, his dreams nurtured, and his passion for uplifting others ignited.

At just 22 years old, he has already built a foundation of purpose and determination. His academic journey began at Madlanga High School, where he completed Grade 12 with a Bachelor pass. Throughout his school years, Qhawe carried a deep sense of responsibility, grounded values, and a desire to be a positive force in the world.

Pursuing a Diploma in Information and Communications Technology (ICT): Application Development, Qhawe chose this field because he believes technology can bridge inequality, create opportunities, and uplift underdeveloped communities. “DUT is more than a university, it is a place where students are nurtured, challenged, and empowered to become leaders of tomorrow,” he says.

His passion for leadership led him to run for the SRC, driven by a conviction to be the voice of the voiceless. For Qhawe, leadership is built on honesty, transparency, trust, and accountability, principles he lives by daily.

Discipline and dedication have been guiding forces in his life. Inspired by the words, “Ours is a generational mission,” he understands that today’s choices shape tomorrow’s opportunities. As SRC Deputy President, he is committed to strengthening student representation, enhancing academic support, and championing initiatives that empower every DUT student.

Qhawe’s leadership is defined by humility, commitment, and a heartfelt dedication to ensuring that every student’s voice is heard, respected, and acted upon.

Congratulations to Qhawe Mtengu on his appointment as the SRC Deputy President of DUT.
