He aims to foster a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and innovation within the organisation.

Tshabalala, a third-year Tourism student is responsible for the administration and conserving frequent communication with stakeholders.

“My role is to represent the interests of the student body, advocate for their needs and concerns, and work towards improving their overall experience at the university,” he said.

He is hopeful for the implementation of meaningful initiatives that will benefit students, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and promote a culture of transparency and accountability within the organisation.

“The difference I plan to bring to the SRC is a more student-centred approach, where the needs and voices of students are prioritised in decision-making processes,” shared Tshabalala.

He further explained that the challenges he faced included balancing his academics with his SRC duties as they come with loads of work and navigating complex university policies. However, through perseverance, strategic planning and collaboration with his team, he has been able to overcome the challenges.

The SRC Secretary-General is striving to involve the students in the decision-making processes. “This SRC is different from others because of our focus on collaboration, inclusivity, and transparency. We plan to promote diversity and equality, and hold ourselves accountable to the student body,” he explained.

In terms of his academics, he is committed and determined to obtain the best results and is looking into pursuing further opportunities for personal and professional growth while contributing to the development of his field of study.

Tshabalala promised the DUT community a fruitful term through his passion for social justice and desire to make a positive impact.
