The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Students Representative Council (SRC) Sports and Recreation Officer in Durban, Fezeka Majombozi, wants to make sure that every student feels welcome and has the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of their background or skill level.
Majombozi is currently enrolled in the Faculty of Management Sciences, pursuing a Diploma in Business Law. Her journey at DUT started when she commenced her studies in 2021 following her high school exit in 2020.
As a young, confident and intellectually engaged woman, she has always been interested in Politics which is why she joined the student politics. Her ambitions for the Student Representative Council (SRC) is to initiate programmes that promote overall student health and wellness through engaging sports and recreational activities.
“My role as the Sports and Recreation Officer focuses on working closely with students’ sports clubs and societies to support their activities and initiatives. I collaborate with external sports organisations, sponsors, and community partners to enhance the overall sport experience for students,” she said.
“Being an SRC member comes with its demands which results in not having time to spend with friends. I must always prioritise students as they believed in my capabilities and the advantage lies in the ability to quickly identify gaps and promptly address them,” added Majombozi.
Majombozi explained how she overcomes challenges that she encounters as an SRC member.
“While I would not label it as a challenge, I view my role as an educational journey. Balancing the positions of a player and a Sport and Recreation Officer simultaneously is an unique experience,” she explained.
Majombozi is also determined to further her studies and succeed. “My overarching vision extends to obtaining a PhD, driven by the conviction that a positive mindset can make anything achievable,” she said regarding her academic ambitions.
She concluded by saying that unity keeps them going and they are actively seeking ways to evolve the SRC to better serve the changing needs of the dynamic student community.
