The Durban University of Technology (DUT) School Engagement Project, in partnership with the Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit, recently hosted the 2026 Talent Show at Sastri College’s hall.
Learners from six secondary schools showcased their talents to fellow schoolmates and guests in attendance, including DUT staff and students, teachers, parents and learners from neighbouring schools.
Bérénice de La Croix, DUT School Engagement Project Manager, opened the event by welcoming guests to the Talent Show.
The keynote address was delivered by Philisiwe “Lee” Kunene, a filmmaker and owner of Human Eyes Production House. She encouraged learners to view the creative industry as a viable career and emphasised that being an artist does not mean choosing poverty.
“Let me be honest, the creative industry is not easy. I am not here to sell you a fantasy,” she said.
“It is crucial we understand that modern art is creativity and business. Your talent is the product,” she added.
Ms Kunene’s parting message to the learners was: “Don’t just ask yourself what career you want but ask yourself what world you want to create. The world you inherited was once somebody else’s imagination. Now it is your turn to imagine what comes next.”
The Talent Show officially commenced with an opening performance by Angelic Voices, followed by a series of performances leading up to the closing act by Ezonyazi. In total, 30 performances took to the stage.

The winner of the 2025 Talent Show also graced the stage, demonstrating why he remains the reigning champion.
After the performances, the judges deliberated before announcing the Top Five winning performances of the 2026 Talent Show:
5th place: Samkelo Production
4th place: No Name Baddies
3rd place: Born to Lead
2nd place: Bollywood Diva
1st place: The Terminator, Zack and The Harmonies
The Terminator, Zack and The Harmonies were crowned the winners of the 2026 Talent Show and walked away with a R6 000 voucher.
The Terminator thanked his teacher for always pushing him and believing in him, as well as his mother for her continued support. He also gave special recognition to Zack and The Harmonies, who featured in the winning performance.
He said: “My main purpose was to be here on stage and show rap is not always about money and mansions, it’s all about expressing yourself, it’s about the art, it’s all about connection.”
Ms Andiswa Mhlongo, Assistant Project Manager: DUT School Engagement Project, delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the event to a close.
She thanked and recognised everyone who contributed to making the event possible.
“To our talent show participants, today belonged to you: your creativity, your courage and willingness to share your talents with us made today special,” she said.
She encouraged the participants to continue building themselves and developing their gifts and talents.
