STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO INVEST AND BUILD MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME

Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Financial Aid Unit hosted a Financial Literacy Awards ceremony on 06 October 2026 at the Fred Crookes Sport Centre, Steve Biko campus in Durban.

Delivering the opening remarks and outlining purpose of the day was Mrs Zandile Ngubelanga, Financial Aid Councillor who welcomed all the attendees and shared the purpose of the event. The ceremony aimed to recognise and celebrate students who took the opportunity to participate in the financial literacy programme that was hosted by the First National Bank (FNB).

She encouraged students to apply the lessons learned during the financial literacy sessions into their personal and professional lives. She also extended her sincere appreciation to the FNB for their continued partnership with DUT. “Let us celebrate our students and continue building a financial empowered DUT community,” she said.

Mr Senzo Myeni, FNB facilitator shared words of encouragement. He emphasised the importance of students growing their knowledge and participation in investments, highlighting that they should not wait until they are older to start saving. He reminded students the importance of creating multiple streams of income and encouraged them to start with the little money they receive and invest it in different platforms. “Before investing, learn about financial products first and understand that investment takes time,” he explained.

A session of question-and-answer followed, where Mr Myeni asked students about what they have learnt and awarded them gifts. A certification session also took place, where certificates were handed over to all the students who participated in the programme.

Programme director Ms Sphumelele Dladla delivered the closing remarks, thanking everyone who attended and congratulated all the students for taking part in the financial literacy programme.
