The DUT Golf Team ARE All Set To Tee-OFF

The Durban University of Technology golf team are all ready to tee-off at the 2017 Inter-University Golf Tournament which takes place at Selbourne and Mdoni, from Wednesday, 20 September 2017 to Friday, 22 September 2017.
Excitement is mounting as the 10 DUT team members as they discuss their golf game plan before they tackle the golf course terrains and put their putting skills on display, at the event.

The golf team members representing DUT are: Thuto Motuang, Professor Darry Penceliah, Nahlnhla Nhleko, Indresain Pather, Professor Steven Khehla Ndlovu, Professor Ian Lazarus, Paulo Da Costa, Dr Jerry Mohaphi, Steven Parbanath and Gain Reddy. Professor Khehla Ndlovu, Deputy Vice Chancellor: People and Operations at DUT will also be the guest speaker at the final day of the event.

President of the DUT golf team, Professor Ian Lazarus, said the event was seen as a great way for the DUT staff to bond and a great opportunity for them to interact with other staff members from other universities and was quite a successful event, to date. “Every year, a University has a chance to host the event. Last year, (2016), it was in Johannesburg, this year it is being held in Durban by the North-West University committee. Many of the DUT staff have forged wonderful friendships with colleagues from various universities, so that has been wonderful. There are about 14 universities such as UNISA, UCT, CPUT, to name but are few, that are participating in groups and in individual games. DUT has been involved for nearly 17 years and have played host in 2009,” he said.

Day one of the event starts with a formal function where all University players are given the opportunity network with one another. The second and third day respectively entails the competition with team events taking place as well as individual events.

The event has many sponsors on board with prize-giving taking place on Thursday and Friday evenings. Prof Lazarus also added that the DUT golf teams have always excelled at previous golf day events, adding that although the competition was very strong, the team always managed to win prizes. “We are always improving and have always won prizes. The teams are also mixed on the golf course, so it’s an excellent way to socialise,” he said. Prof Lazarus also said that most of the years there had been ladies in the team and are urging all female colleagues to join the DUT staff golf club.

Professor Khehla Ndlovu, the Deputy Vice Chancellor: People and Operations at the Durban University of Technology, the golf day was a good platform for DUT to be part of. “We want to be involved in not just golf but other sporting codes at DUT as well. I look forward to the event and being part of the team,” he said excitedly.
