THE PASSING OF HIS MAJESTY KING GOODWILL ZWELITHINI, FORMER CHANCELLOR OF ML SULTAN TECHNIKON

MEDIA STATEMENT BY ALAN KHAN, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS AT THE DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY 

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) was shocked and sad to learn that His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini, has passed on. The tragic news was confirmed by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi on Friday, 12 March 2021. 

On behalf of the DUT Chancellor, Madam Nonkululeko Nyembezi, the Chairperson of the DUT Council Mr Wiseman Madinane, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu and on behalf of the staff, students, alumni and Council of DUT, we would like to convey our most sincere condolences to the royal family, to the Zulu nation and to the people of our country. We pray for the strength and comfort of those who are in mourning. May the soul of His Majesty KingGoodwill Zwelithini rest in eternal peace. 

His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini was a former Chancellor of M.L Sultan Technikon, prior to the merger with Technikon Natal, that resulted in the establishment of the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT) in 2002. The DIT was renamed Durban University of Technology in 2007.
