Visiting Academic Explores The Love of Language

Visiting academic, Mark Krzanowski, recently visited the Steve Biko writing centre, to share his knowledge on his research on the English language. He has a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics specialising in teaching, translating and interpreting English, Russian and Polish. To add to his already many feathers to his cap, he is undertaking a part-time Ph.D. (doctorate in Education) degree at the University of East London (UEL). Krzanowski visited DUT to specifically conduct his research focusing on English and how it is used in KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa by local black language students.

He certainly has kept students in awe with his anecdotes of life in the United Kingdom and his travel experiences in South Africa. Krzanowski holds a lecturing position at the University of Westminster. By the plethora of qualifications, one would presume he would be displaying a wildly intellectual disposition. However, he is one of the most unassuming and unquestionably the most interesting people that joined had visited at the Steve Biko Writing Centre. With a real sense and passion for exploring the layers of language and his love for people can only make you want to become more enthusiastic about one’s dreams and aspirations. He treats individuals as equally as possible, without regard to race, culture and ethnicity and for us (students) this remains a quality that people in our country are still grappling with.
