Now firmly established as a flagship event on the University calendar, the Valentine’s Movie Night has gained national recognition for its creativity and impact, having proudly received a Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Award in 2025 for its innovativeness. The accolade underscores DUT’s commitment to imaginative alumni engagement and meaningful fundraising initiatives. The special evening promises more than just a cinematic experience. Designed as a fundraising initiative, all proceeds will be directed towards the Unit’s Meals for Good Campaign, the University’s food insecurity programme, which supports students in need.

Guests will enjoy a curated Valentine’s-themed experience in an intimate cinema setting, featuring a special screening of Wuthering Heights. The evening blends classic romance with a modern philanthropic purpose, creating a meaningful platform for alumni, staff, students and friends of the University to reconnect while contributing to an impactful cause. In addition to the film screening, attendees can look forward to complimentary popcorn, a drink and a sweet treat, exciting raffle prizes, a surprise gift, and a dedicated photo area with themed propsensuring the night is as memorable as it is meaningful.

Encouraging the DUT community and friends of the University to attend, Ms Ronelle Lyson, Alumni Relations Coordinator, said: “The Valentine’s Movie Night is more than just an evening at the cinema — it is an opportunity for the DUT community and our friends to come together in the spirit of love and giving. By attending, guests are not only sharing a memorable experience but are also directly contributing to initiatives that make a real difference in the lives of our students. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating connection, compassion and community.”

Speaking further to the spirit of the event, the Advancement & Alumni Relations Unit highlighted that the Movie Night reflects DUT’s continued commitment to innovative alumni engagement, while advancing social impact initiatives that directly benefit the University community.

The Valentine’s Movie Night will take place at Suncoast Cine Centre, Suncoast Casino, on 27 February 2026, with the programme commencing in the early evening. Tickets are priced at R150 per person, making the event accessible while maximising its fundraising reach.

By combining love, laughter and cinema with a strong philanthropic focus, DUT’s award-winning Valentine’s Movie Night serves as a powerful reminder that meaningful change can begin with a shared experience and a ticket to the movies.
