YOUNG AMPUTEE MAKING IT AGAINST ALL ODDS

YOUNG AMPUTEE MAKING IT AGAINST ALL ODDS

Mfundo Shozi is a 23-year-old young author, motivational speaker and entrepreneur. Born in Umlazi, Durban, Shozi was raised by his single mother due to the early passing of his father when he was only eight years old. Sadly his mother passed on four years later.

Shozi has been through a lot of challenges at his tender age, which includes an unfortunate incident where he was knocked over by his aunt and lost his right leg. “When the accident happened I really thought it was the end of me, I have never experienced so much pain in my life, it felt like a terrible dream,” said Shozi.“I spent two and a half months in hospital and had three operations. I also spent another two and a half months recovering at home, just when I thought I was making progress, another operation took place in January 2012,” he explained.

According to Shozi, his biggest challenge was walking with crutches; students on campus would look at him and felt sorry for him, while others didn’t know what to say, every day was a real challenge, but he had to persevere. This tragedy went away with his dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. Regardless of everything he’s been through, Shozi did not allow his circumstances to define his life.

According to Shozi, he has written a book about his life titled, Dream Catcher- 5 Ways to Overcome Obstacles and Make Your Aspirations a Reality.“One of the hardest things for me was trying to accept the loss of the people I loved and who took care of me. In high school, I really struggled because I lacked motivation and didn’t have any purpose,” he said.

Shozi completed his matric in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree. He then enrolled for his Diploma in Public Relations in 2011 at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Shozi is currently studying his Public Relations, at the Durban University of Technology. His also the founder and managing director of his two registered companies; UvoLwethu Communications, and his PR consultancy and MegaStars Sports Management, which is a sports agency that represents soccer players and strives to help them turn their Dreams into a reality. Shozi believes that his challenges have made him a better person.

“During my motivational speeches, I always tell people that our circumstances doesn’t define who we are and that when something happens to us we have two choices, either to allow it to make us better or bitter,” explained Shozi.

His dream is to inspire people not only through his book, but also through his motivational speeches.
His Book is available at Adams Booksellers and Amazon as an eBook.
