Zakhele Jiyane is a business leader and a highly skilled engineer with two decades working experience.

He spent the last 16 years working for Vodacom in a number of different business areas where he held a broad range of senior roles.

He was part of the team that started Vodacom Limpopo from scratch and built the solid network in that region. He brings to his current posting a unique set of skills, carved over a period of time and an insider viewpoint to help propel Vodacom forward in that region.
In line with Vodacom’s objective of becoming a leading digital company, Zakhele’s will seek to position and ready the Vodacom Mpumalanga region for the digital journey by providing a superior network and customer experience, irrespective of where they reside.

“My vision is to ensure that Mpumalanga is not left behind on the digital journey. Our aim is to empower the digital lives of our customers. We have set our sights on removing barriers to access as we evolve to the gigabit society while transforming education, healthcare, financial services and agriculture. Furthermore, I’d like for citizens of the province in rural and township areas to have the same network experience as those who reside in urban areas,” said Zakhele.

The Managing Executive mentioned that: “Vodacom already has the best network in the Mpumalanga region, with 2G network covering 99.96%, 3G 99.74% and 4G at 80.05% of the population in Mpumalanga. This is a result of having spent hundreds of millions of rands ramping up the network in that region over the past three years, but that’s not enough. I want to make sure that we connect everyone whether they live in the cities or in the rural areas, and that takes investment. This financial year we spent R120 million to build new sites, on core network, network capacity, site upgrades and security on our sites. We will deploy 30 new base station sites to push our sites to over 1 057 in the region by March 2017. On a practical basis this will mean wider coverage, faster data, and better call quality for the people of Mpumalanga.”

Zakhele holds a qualification in Electrical Engineering from Durban University of Technology and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Johannesburg.

He has a string of Executive Development programmes to his credit and took part in Vodacom Advanced Executive Programme and the Vodafone Inspire programme both aimed at equipping future leaders in the Vodafone Group of Companies.

Away from the office, Zakhele enjoys spending quality time with his family and also enjoys playing golf and watching sport. To unwind after a busy week, he likes listening to music and reading a good book.
