Focus on Forging Collaborations as ISEA2018 Academic Symposium Concludes

The International Symposium on Electronic Art 2018 (ISEA2018) concluded the academic programme at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), City Campus on Wednesday, 27 June 2018.

DUT had the honour to host the ISEA2018, alongside the Innovation Festival (IF) Durban, in conjunction with the DUT’s Art and Design Digital festival (DigiFest), celebrating the art of technology under the theme: Intersections.

ISEA2018 Artistic Director, Marcus Neustette, emphasized the importance of the survival of art and knowledge through partnership and collaboration.

“Creative collaboration between artists, artisans, designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists and inventors take place in the context where survival is the most basic instigator for solutions. The role of the artist is essential in providing opportunities to build new and exciting intersections between people and places,” he said.

Faculty of Arts and Design Executive, Dr René Smith said she is proud to have the DigiFest involved in the 24th annual ISEA academic symposium, bringing together heritage, tradition, innovation and the future.

“DigiFest was approached to be involved in the ISEA2018, to engage with international scholars and practicing electronic artists, so as to enhance and grow our Durban festival. Our inner-city campus provided an engaging space for experimental, innovative work from emerging digital artists, and our DigiFest provided a platform for engagement. We are pleased to have been selected as an ISEA2018 legacy project and hope to draw on partnerships to consolidate and sustain our local festival. Thank you to all who have made ISEA2018 possible,” she said.

ISEA2018 continues on 28-30 June 2018 at the following venues: Bond Square, Waterfront Hotel, uShaka Conference Venue, Ciao Bella Courtyard, Innovate Durban Courtyard, Durban Art Gallery, KZNSA, 031 Distillery, S3 Brewery and the Durban City Hall.

The 25th ISEA2019 will be from the 22nd -28 June 2019 at the Asia Culture Centre, Gwangju, in the Republic of Korea, themed: Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light).
