DLAMINI BELIEVES THAT THE WALLS OF DUT NURTURED HER INTO A YOUNG ENERGETIC AND INNOVATIVE LEADER

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Representative Council (SRC) Project Officer, Ms Nonhle Dlamini (23) from Jolivet, Ixopo believes that the walls of DUT nurtured her into a young energetic and innovative leader that she is today.

Dlamini is currently doing her Advanced Diploma in Information Communication Technology (ICT): Business Analysis. In May this year (2023), she will be graduating for her Diploma in ICT: Business Analysis.

She joined the DUT community in 2020. During her registration journey, Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) student leaders were all over the university premises helping students with directions around campuses, from the registration point till the findings of the residence locations. That is when she fell in love with the EFFSC.

Her role as the SRC Project Officer is to represent the student body at the university with decision-making and organise ways for students to participate in and enjoy university life. Her primary role is to plan all programmes and events for DUT students. She also works hand in hand with protection services to maintain high level protection and safety for all DUT students.

“My ambitions for the 2022/23 SRC is to work together and evolve the DUT into greater heights, plant a seed and the importance of Education to DUT students and educate them about the aims, goals and objectives of the ENVISION2030 strategy,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini also shared the challenges that she encounters as the SRC Project Officer.

“Ever since I joined the SRC, I am always encountered with challenges when it comes to balancing my personal life and my academic life. All students think that I know everything and I can solve all issues but I am also a person, I have my own mistakes. As much as I serve students it becomes stressful and it is a big shoe to fit but I created a time frame for everything that I do,” she stressed.

Her biggest wish is to bring good change within their structure of leadership and to achieve greater leaders who will lead students to greatness. She is also planning to study until she reaches the PhD level as she comes from a family that believes in education.

Dlamini believes that the 2022/2023 SRC is different from the previous SRC’s because, this SRC fights for students in terms of achieving academic excellence and improving the teaching and learning experience for them.
