Bio: Dr. Mohan obtained Ph. D in Hybrid nanocomposites, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras, India, 2006). Prior to doctoral programme, he obtained two masters degrees, M. Eng. Materials Science (National Institute of Technology Trichy, India, 2002) & M. Sc Materials Science (Anna University, India, 2000). He have approx. 3.5 years of Industrial R&D experience in the field of thermoplastic polymers and nanocomposites focused on barrier, textile and automotive applications. He was a National Research Foundation (NRF, South Africa) & Claude Leon Foundation (South Africa) postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Durban University of Technology from 2009 to 2012, and Research Fellow from 2013 to 2017 partly funded by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR, South Africa).He published 40 peer reviewed international journals, 19 conference papers, 4 peer reviewed book chapters and 1 granted patent. He was a co-investigator of 7 nationally and internationally funded projects worth of ZAR 3.5 million. He had supervised 1 doctoral student and co-supervised 3 masters students. His current Google scholar citations 761 and H-index 13.

Courses Currently Teaching: Mechanics of Machines I

Research and Innovation focus: My research work focuses on developing various types of composite materials, such as fiber reinforced polymers (FRP), polymeric nanocomposites, natural fibers/fillers and biopolymers based composites for engineering applications primarily dependent on gas and water barrier properties. I am also studying on how the barrier medium affects the composite materials on tensile, tribological, fracture and thermal properties.
My current research focus is on Green fillers for biopolymers for improved barrier properties.
