PhD Degrees by Research

• The minimum requirement for entry to the PhD degree is a Master’s degree which is evaluated as NQF level 9 by the South African Qualifications Authority, with an average of 70% or above (an upper second class degree).

• Under the supervision of two members of ICON staff, students write a thesis of around 80 000 words. We require that an action research approach be followed, in order that some peace is built during the thesis process. Titles of completed theses are available at Build Peace.

• Full-time students are not required to pay administrative or tuition fees but are expected to complete within three years. Fees will be charged for students who do not complete within four years.

• The official title of the degree is Doctor of Philosophy in Management Sciences specialising in Public Administration -Peace Studies.
