The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Midlands Project Management Office through the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP) recently participated in a parent’s meeting at the Rise and Shine Primary School located at Imbali, about a 1km away from Indumiso campus.

The attendance comes after a meeting that was recently attended by the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP) Manager: Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi, DUT staff members and the school management.

He went on to assure the parents that the school would be registered and will now open Grade 8 admission for next year 2023. Furthermore, he explained to parents the importance of allowing their children to the right of basic education and urged them to invest money in educational programmes and activities.

“The school aims to build a wholistic person, we deal with physical body, brain and the spirit of the child which is one of the reasons there is a coach appointed to assist with various sporting activities and a computer expert to train children on technology. I would also like to emphasize that the community as whole should play a pivotal role in the child success,” said Mr Chetty.

Rise and Shine Primary School Deputy Principal: Ms Zandile Ntambo further outlined the admission and registration rules for 2023.

Mr Shozi presented on the IEIP activities and how they could partner with the school and the community to advance to the IEIP objectives. He went on to emphasize the importance of the Imbali residents engaging with DUT, uMgungundlovu TVET and all the schools that form part of IEIP.

“The point of sharing resources among the Precinct schools, DUT and uMgungundlovu TVET is critical and helps to maximise utilisation of resources. Institutions that form part of the IEIP should be able to share soccer fields, libraries, attend each other’s workshops and events, and partner in community activities.  There is need for such to ensure that all these institutions assist to economically uplift Imbali community by providing jobs, educate the community and ensures that they utilise the resources found in their location,” he elaborated.

Furthermore, he highlighted and urged to partner with the school on a number of activities including providing training on entrepreneurship, involvement on sports activities, sharing resources and partnering on education activities like education workshops.
