The Enterprise Development Unit, otherwise known as EDU, is an education, training and skills development unit wholly owned by the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

The unit, which was established to cultivate, nurture and strengthen links between the university and industry, plays a key role in skills development as well as in SMME development. The EDU is made up of a number of specialists units – one of which is the Professional Bodies Studies Unit.

The global economy has seen a boom in international trade and industry, which has led to the growth of significant job opportunities in these sectors. With this rapid growth, rewarding job opportunities have opened up for individuals who are trained in and possess internationally recognised qualifications. The Professional Bodies Studies Unit programmes are highly regarded in the marketplace and provide students with an excellent base for a rewarding career.

As a commercial arm of the University, the unit is accredited and registered with the following professional bodies to offer their respective learning programmes: Institute of Certified Bookkeepers – ICB IMM Graduate School of Marketing – IMM GSM Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa-CIS ICB: Technical Financial Accountant well as by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and Accountants. The Technical Financial Accountant programme enables students to become SAIT recognised tax practitioner accounting technicians, and provides them with the in and outs of accounting, auditing and business law. The entry requirement is a National Senior Certificate. IMM GSM IMM GSM strives for excellence in marketing in southern Africa and has worked in collaboration with the local and international marketing industry. IMM GSM ensures that students receive the necessary knowledge in the market place. Entry requirements are a National Senior Certificate with English HL: 3 (40 to 49 percent) or First Additional English 4 (50 to 59 percent). cis Chartered Secretaries South Africa is the formal professional institute for the enabling of corporate governance and company secretaryship. It is a recognised qualification for the accounting officer and financial officer posts required in terms of Close Corporation legislation. The CSSA is the professional qualifying body for the CIS, offering an international qualification.

Entry requirements are a National Senior Certificate with English (HL) and Mathematics, Accountancy or Science at a 4 rating for each key subject.
