Welcome to the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Centre for Quality Promotion and Assurance portal!
At DUT, our commitment to excellence in education is rooted in our vision, mission, and ENVISION2030 strategic goals. We believe in fostering a staff and student-centred environment that promotes engagement and ensures academic standards of the highest quality.
Our Quality Assurance Policy serves as the foundation for our commitment to continuous improvement and accountability. It is supported by robust processes and practices aimed at achieving the following objectives:
- aligning with national imperatives to ensure fitness for purpose and relevance;
- ensuring accountability for the effective and efficient utilisation of resources;
- empowering students to achieve academic success;
- providing effective support services and resources to enhance educational provision and ensure equity in access; and
- cultivating an organisational culture of quality
Our handbook serves as a comprehensive resource to facilitate the implementation of our Quality Assurance Policy. It offers procedures and guidelines to support various aspects of quality assurance, including:
- annual quality monitoring (AQM) in all departments/sectors across the university;
- programme review and evaluation;
- national review and accreditation of existing programmes;
- development and approval of new programmes;
- programme management;
- thematic reviews; and
- system and process audits
Implementation procedures take cognisance of the Institutional Audit Criteria and relevant sections of the Programme Accreditation Criteria (where applicable) of the HEQC. In the short to medium term, the QA policy and procedures will be aligned to the QAF which will replace the current Programme Accreditation criteria from 2024 onwards. Within the parameters of the QA policy, departments have the flexibility to be innovative and to enhance the procedures as shown below.
