Through Support From Loved Ones Hlangu Achieves Her Academic Dream

It is through the support of her family and friends that Nokulunga Hlangu was able to obtain her Cum laude with a Deans merit for her Diploma in Catering Management. Hlangu graduated this morning (Saturday, 11 May 2019) at the Durban University of Technology’s Fred Crookes Sport Centre in Durban.

After losing her father at a young age, Hlangu was raised by her unemployed mother. She worked at a Call Centre to save money for her registration fees. “My friend helped me a lot, she bought me my uniform that was a requirement in my course and she helped where ever else she could.” she said.

The dedicated Hlangu spent most of her time on campus studying “I was on campus from Monday to Saturday working diligently,” she said.

Her hard work paid off when she passed with flying colours year after a year and obtaining a fee remission. “I am very happy I can’t even sleep at night,” she said. Nokulunga is the last born of two children and is the first in her family to graduate.

“My mother could not support me financially, but was supportive in all other aspects, she made sure I never did any house chores to focus on my school work,” said Hlangu. She added that she could not have done it without the support of her friends and family and her dedication to her work.

Hlangu is currently doing her BTech in Management at DUT and hopes to eventually own her own catering business.
