Bio: Dr. Olarewaju is a Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of Department (Management Accounting) at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa. She obtained her first and second degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria with cum laude and she obtained her PhD in Accounting from University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.She has held faculty positions in colleges in South Africa and Ekiti State University Nigeria. As an accomplished researcher with several articles published in DHET accredited peer-reviewed journals to her credit, she is a Board Member and Ed. She is a training facilitator at SASH Business Management for training and consulting, Durban, South Africa (http://sashbm.com/#facilitators).She has also presented academic papers at accredited international conferences in United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirate amongst many others. Odunayo is a distinguished scholar holding the record of the Fastest Doctorate Degree Completion in Africa (source https://temmybalogun.com/how-nigerias-olarewaju-odunayo-completed-her-phd-in23-months/) alongside other extraordinary academic laurels such as;

  • Best Presenter at the second International Conference on Humanities, Accounting and Social sciences, University of Toronto, Canada. July 13th 2019.
  • Best full paper presented at Southern African Accounting Association (SAAA), KwaZulu-Natal Regional Teaching and Learning Conference, Riverside Hotel, Durban, South Africa. June 29th 2018.
  • Best Graduating Female Accounting Student, 2009/2010 Session, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria by Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN). March, 2011.

Dr. Olarewaju has mentored many masters and honours degree students to successful graduation and still has several masters and doctoral students in Accounting under her supervision. Dr. Olarewaju is an Accounting Technician and a Chartered Accountant under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Business Accountant under the Southern African Institute of Business Accountants (SAIBA), a student member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), reviewer and editorial board member of eight academic journals and post-graduate examinations reviewer for various universities in South Africa. 

Research Interest: Environmental Accounting, Management Accounting, Corporate Governance, Sustainability Accounting and Managerial Accounting and Finance.

Bio: Professor M H Kabir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Accounting at Durban University of Technology since January 2019. He has served as Acting Head of Management Accounting Department from January 2019 to June 2019. He has received his MBA degree in Accounting and BBA Honours degree in Accounting from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and his Ph D degree with a research focus in an accounting area from North-West University, South Africa. Professor Kabir has 20 years of university teaching, research and administrative experience in several countries (Tshwane University of Technology South Africa, University of Swaziland and University of Botswana) and also having more than five years’ industry experience. For excellence in research and teaching, he has received a number of research and teaching awards. Professor Kabir has published widely in leading corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, accounting, finance, and management journals. He has produced more than 35 research outputs (scholarly journals, refereed conference proceedings, book chapters) and presented 28 conference papers (22 international conferences and 6 local conferences). To his credit, Professor Kabir has graduated 8 masters’ students and 36 research project students at honours level and currently supervising 10 masters and one Ph D students. He has served on the advisory boards and scientific committees of a number of international conferences and currently he is an editorial board member of ‘International Journal of Business and Emerging Markets’ and serving as a Regional Conference Chair (Africa) of Academy of Business and Emerging Markets since 2015. Professor Kabir has also served as Deputy Chair on Mpumalanga Provincial Government Research Ethics Committee, South Africa from 2016 to 2017. He was a Chairperson of Audit and Risk Committee of Thaba Chweu Local Economic Development Agency, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa from 2013 to 2018. Professor Kabir is an external examiner and moderator for postgraduate programme for several local and international universities. He has examined 17 postgraduate dissertations/theses. For Swaziland Chartered Accountants students, he has served as an internal examiner for Swaziland Institute of Accountants for Swaziland Taxation paper from 2005 to 2008. Professor Kabir is a member of many international professional bodies including British Academy of Management (UK), Australian Academy of Business Leadership (Australia) and Swaziland Institute of Accountants (Swaziland).

Bio: Mrs Melanie Bernice Cloete is a lecturer in the Management Accounting Department at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa. She has worked in academia since 1996 within the Management Accounting discipline. Her qualifications include a Higher Diploma in Education (Economic Science), a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology: Cost and Management Accounting and a Master of Accounting Degree. She is currently engaged in research, which is geared, towards her PhD. She has published articles in DHET accredited peer-reviewed journals and has presented academic papers at accredited international conferences. She is currently involved in the co-supervision of numerous masters’ students and is a reviewer for various DHET accredited journals. She has co-authored two books titled Basic Accounting for Non-Accountants 3rd Edition and Cost and Management Accounting: Operations and Management – A Southern African Approach. 2nd edition.

Bio: Ferina Marimuthu is a lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting and has recently obtained a PhD in Finance (UKZN).  She is a long-serving staff member, being at the university for over 21 years.  She has been involved in teaching at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. In addition, she has presented extensively at both local and international conferences and has many academic books to her credit.  Her focus areas include management accounting, financial management and financial accounting.

Bio: Mr S. K Naidoo is a Lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa and an associate member of the Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa (CSSA). Mr Naidoo brings a wealth of knowledge to the department having worked as an administrator at the university and in industry in South Africa and New Zealand before joining the department. Mr Naidoo is an experienced academic having lectured first to fourth year subjects. His passion is research and for many years he lectured Research Methodology in the department. He has also published articles of his own in accredited peer-reviewed journals. He currently lectures Cost Accounting 2 and Management Accounting 3.

He also has gained much knowledge and experience from two other companies namely: Gilbeys Distillers and Uni-foods (SA).  His vast working experiences will play a critical role and nurturing student’s potential and to their lifelong learning needs. He has been working at DUT for the past 14 years. He is currently completing his Master’s Degree.

Omolola Mrs Omolola A. Arise

Bio: Mrs Omolola A. Arise is a lecturer in the Management Accounting Department of the Durban University of Technology of South Africa. She worked in the banking industry before moving to academia. She has six years lecturing experience. Omolola holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Accounting; has a non-diploma degree in management accounting at the Durban University of Technology, bagged a ‘Cum Laude’ in Master of Accounting and a Dean’s Merit award at the same university. Her research focus area is in environmental management accounting with a published article and presented at conference presentations. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University Of KwaZulu Natal University.

Bio: Mr Zwelihle Wiseman Nzuza is a Professional Accountant (SA). He holds a Master’s Degree in Cost and Management Accounting and is currently pursuing his PhD: Public MGT in Accountancy Education. Zwelihle Wiseman Nzuza is a lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa. His work experiences in higher education include curriculum renewal, supervision of postgraduate students, and teaching the accounting & finance aspects.

Bio: Stephanie Caroline Singh is the Extended Curriculum Programme Coordinator and Lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology. She is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Accounting and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Cost and Management Accounting. Her area of research focus is on Student Performance amongst Accounting Students at UoTs. She is passionate about integrated learning and has presented research papers at three local accredited conferences in 2019 and is also a co-author in a paper presented at an international conference in September 2018. She believes in student centeredness and is enthusiastic about practical innovative methods in her teaching and learning processes. She has been with the Durban University of Technology from the year 2008 in the Department of Management Accounting.
