Welcome to the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the Durban University of Technology!
Excellence in learning and teaching lies at the heart of the Durban University of Technology’s commitment to ENVISION2030. At the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) we mainstream the university’s philosophy of education — this is a key approach to allow creativity and innovation to shape adaptive graduates who transform society. As Director, I invite you to explore resources and opportunities available here that empower students and staff. Our mission is, to empower excellence in innovative and transformative higher education, to foster a dynamic learning environment that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and academic growth. Whether you’re a DUT student seeking support, staff looking to enhance your teaching strategies, or a researcher interested in pedagogical innovation, CELT is your dedicated partner in success. We foreground collaboration and partnership within the university and broader society, promote the conscious and deliberate questioning of ‘taken-for-granted’ assumptions, values, and beliefs to foster unlearning and relearning. We nurture ingenuity and entrepreneurial thinking across the university, and uphold care, respect, equity, diversity and inclusivity. We strive to ensure that every member of our community receives the guidance they need to thrive through workshops, consultations, structured programmes, access to educational technology and the centre’s management of externally funded teaching and learning grants. Our team of dedicated professionals is here to support you at every stage of your academic journey, ensuring that you have the tools and knowledge to reach your potential. I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources available at CELT. Together, let us continue to elevate teaching and learning experiences across our campuses, to foster a culture of excellence and innovation. We aim to engage, empower, excel. Thank you for being part of our vibrant learning community at the Durban University of Technology. Here’s to discovery and achievement! Warm regards, Dr Shoba Rathilal Acting Director, CELT |
