BIOGRAPHY

Nokhuthula Mavela is a qualified homoeopath with experience in higher education teaching in the disciplines of health sciences and general education since 2013. She has served as a tutor, graduate assistant, lecturer assistant, lecturer, institutional research ethics committee reviewer and master in health sciences research supervision. She has a passion for student success and has been trained as a peer helper, peer educator and peer advisor and in 2017 was recognized by the largest global honorary society Golden Key.

She serves as the TLDP for the faculty of health sciences as well as faculty of arts and design at DUT. Under the SSD unit her roles include first year student experience (FYSE), senior year student experience (SYSE), academic advising (AA), residence education programme (REP), tutoring services for the training of tutors, mentors and academic advisors and design thinking for students. As a member of the community of practice of the entrepreneurship development in higher education (EDHE) under DHET, she serves as the student voice for entrepreneurship at the institution and EDHE. Her research interests lie in health systems with a keen interest on the integration of complementary and alternative medicine into the public health care sector. Student and educator adaptations and self-concepts in influencing academic success.
