Research literacy is not only about reading and writing, and the advanced language use required for the writing of theses and research articles, but also includes “digital literacy”. Digital literacy refers to the use of research programs such as EndNote, NVIVO and SPSS, as well as to use of online or mobile resources, in the actual course of generating research data and research publications. Research and Postgraduate Support offers specialist small group hand-on workshops to DUT staff and higher degree students on the following:
- EndNote, NVIVO and SPSS
- Digital literacy (i.e. use of digital resources for research purposes)
- Online research modules
- English for Research Purposes, which includes, amongst other competencies, use of digital resources for the following:
- Finding, organising and processing research sources
- Mastery of research genres
- Use of research language conventions
- Use of common research terms and idioms
- Correct English language use
