ASSAf Statement on the Recognition of the Work of Editors and Peer Reviewers of Academic Journals and Books in South Africa

The Statement on the Recognition of the Work of Editors and Peer Reviewers of Academic Journals and Books in South Africa has been formally approved by the ASSAf Council. This marks a meaningful step in acknowledging the essential, though often under-recognised, contributions of editors and peer reviewers to scholarly publishing and the advancement of academic standards. This Statement emphasises the critical roles that editors and peer reviewers play in maintaining research quality and scholarly integrity. It also addresses the current lack of recognition within academic reward structures. ASSAf urges university and science council administrators to formally acknowledge and support editorial work, offering recommendations for its inclusion within performance evaluations and appraisals
