Tomorrows Engineering Today

Chemical engineering is a field that deals with the study of processes needed for converting raw materials into useful products with minimal environmental impact. It involves the application of physical and life sciences, mathematics, economics, and engineering principles to create, change, and move chemicals, materials, and energy. Moreover, chemical engineering is playing a significant role in digitalization.


The following programmes are offered in the field of Chemical Engineering:

– Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Chemical Engineering

– Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours in Chemical Engineering

– Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology

– Advanced Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology

– Master of Engineering

– Doctoral of Engineering

These qualifications allow for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and the Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PAMSA), and it is internationally recognised through the Sidney Accord.

The Chemical Engineering Department is dedicated to producing creative, adaptive, distinctive, innovative, and entrepreneurial graduates. Our graduates add value to technology, impactful projects in the community, and research. They are skilled in solving complex problems and global challenges, which involve clean pollution, global warming, food security, energy, basic commodities, and analyzing data.
