BIOGRAPHY
Professor Livingstone Makondo is a former Acting Director for the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) (2021-2022). Since 2024 he is currently the Acting Coordinator for the Curriculum and Academic Staff Development (CASD) in CELT. In 2014-2021 he has been the Coordinator for Student Support and Development Unit (SSDU) responsible for the conceptualisation and implementation of the now institution-wide First Year Student Experience (FYSE), Academic Advising (AA), Senior Year Student Experience (SYSE) and Residence Educational Programme (REP). He designed and teaches in the Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDip HE) that is hosted by the School of Education (SoE) in the Faculty of Arts and Design. He has been involved with design and review of institutional policies.
Prior to joining DUT in 2014, he has been an educator since 1996 and taught at 3 high schools. As a qualified designer, facilitator, assessor and moderator, he has been a graduate teaching assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, head of department at Morgan ZINTEC, University of Zimbabwe, Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. In South Africa he has worked as senior academic development practitioner, senior instructional designer, senior lecturer and associate professor at the University of South Africa, North West University (Mafikeng campus), University of Venda and now at the DUT. Livingstone has been responsible for coordination of the provision of academic development services at the Midlands Centre and across DUT. Since 2016 as a Senate member in he has served two terms as member for the Committee that appoint members at the Senior Level 1-4. From 2024 he is serving as a Senate member for SENEX and deputy chair for the Academic Freedom Committee. As part of Community engagement, he has partnership with a TVET college.
His research interests are in higher education studies, student and staff development, onomastics, anthroponomastics, human resource management and applied linguistics. He has 27 published peer-reviewed articles (2007-2024), 6 book chapters (2010-2021) and 2 books (2010-2012), has done 46 conference presentations (2007-2024). He has supervised to graduation 22 honours, 12 masters and 3 doctoral students. He has been an external examiner for 11 institutions of higher learning (2006-2024). |
