Overview

Reporting of the institutional Research Outputs to DHET is one of the major activities of the RPS Directorate.  Annually DUT’s research outputs are collated and submitted to the DHET for the allocation of government subsidy to universities. This important activity accrues a significant amount of funding for the university from the government.  Academics and researchers are expected to participate actively by publishing journal articles, books, chapters or papers published in conference proceedings.

Subsequent to the research outputs policy DHET (DHET) has also developed a policy on the evaluation and recognition of creative outputs and innovations.

The purpose of these policies is to recognize and reward quality research/creative outputs and innovations produced by public higher education institutions.  The policies can be found here.  The individual researcher’s publications are reported to the Research Outputs office via the institutional electronic research administration system Converis

Supporting Documents for Research submission for Books Chapters

The DHET requires a written justification, not exceeding 500 words, from the author of the book or, in the case of an edited book with several chapters by various contributors, the general editor. It should explain the book’s contribution to scholarship, describe the methodology used, and set out its unique contribution to knowledge production.

This justification should not be an abstract of the contents or a preface of the book. It should be clear that the book disseminates original research and new developments within the specific discipline. A declaration must be made that no part of the work was plagiarised or published elsewhere. The target audience must be stated.

Without the justification, the submission is deemed incomplete and will be excluded from the DHET submission. You can download the template below.
